Among the Neon Awakening Echoes- The Flapper, Birmingham June 2018 -

We love the Flapper in Birmingham, great venue and being threatened with a closer in June 2018. But that is not yet. More fun to be had

Around this time every year Among the Echoes organise an electro gig with support. This time it was Welsh duo, Def Neon, and Johnny Normal.

My wife and I got introduced to a nice couple by Among the Echoes manager, Carol who mentioned we are big fans.

When they got on stage it turns out the couple were Def Neon, Emily (Vocals and bass) and Mickey (Guitar, Vox, and electronics) with the 80s and 90s sample interweaved with the electro beats and a nicely controlled Kaos pad. Did about 30 minutes. Their sounds is kind of heavier version of Transvision Vamp.  They did a fine rendition of Killing in the Name of.. by Rage Against the Machine and I like the way they sampled Technotronic on the opening of one of their songs

This next act the man with the Razorblade smile Johnny Normal.  He performed Miss Razorblade, a few covers including I guess Softcell ( He left us guessing) and his new single Let Nothing Take Your Pride (which is under his new moniker The Rude Awakening). Great to see him once more.

We have been following the band for around 5 years.

Frontman Ian, had some of his family in and they requested "Hey Bitch" (The song is Pure), it’s strange what people remember. Did a few covers including a song by Sisters of Mercy and Human League’s Being Boiled. They also played their new tracks Breathe ( One of my favourites) and the Fear Inside (They were filming the gig for it). Someone in the crowd had a birthday and the band celebrated by giving him a cake. The band reprised The Fear Inside at the end of the set for front stage filming.

We are probably going to be in the frame?
