Nine Lights- The Joyful End - Album Review

Colours, the first single and the first song from the album The Joyful End.

Gary Smithson- Guitar and vocals Daniel Bonas- Bass and vocals Steve Parish- Drums and percussion

Even though I had seen the bass player in cover band Under the Covers,  I didn't know what to expect.  The first thing that struck me was the husky style of the vocalist.  Literally, the first comparison that comes to me was Joe Cocker.  He definitely has a rock voice.  It's great to hear an album have an intro, which I am a fan of.  Sure, Colours has that "Single " sound about it but it goes with the album flow.  The Storm,  I can see being a romantic dancefloor request song same with "A New World", great guitar solos and vocals.  Progress, has that fast-paced 90s teen feel, Racing Lines and Make it on Your Own,  are both nice Acoustic ballads.  Things That Could Have Been, sounds like it could become pub sing along and Above it all nearly rounds things off with a mostly instrumental song like the intro.  Along with The Storm and A New World comes The Joyful End. Again a nice romantic ballad with a nice calming ending.

You can tell a lot of thought was put in the project.   Along with the great guitar solos and just the overall general sound the band have created the vocals give it a great tone.  As you can tell the band can go in various directions.  it all comes together.  Be great to see this live.
