Indie films: Sabbath and Dread.

Image
In 2008 within my live radio shows I began introducing film content. I can’t remember how this started but I got in contact with Laura Seli, who at that time had written and was involved with Sabbath ( below) and Dread Fast forward to 2022, I still have both films Laura sent me. I am in the process of editing footage from trailers I found on the DVDs and the film Sabbath (Pictured above) . At the time they were distributed by Braindamaged Films now under Maxim Media . I sent Laura, an email and to my shock she was replied. It had been 14 years since the original emails. A mini extended fan edit cut to an Rock song I have selected is the direct I am leaning.

Popcorned Planet- Pop Culture Justice ( Youtube New Channel)

Image
My wife found this channel as we heard about the Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard trial I have never been a fan of celebrity news and gossip, it's just not my thing.  However, I like watching Vloggers who travel and then you see the reality that media doesn't report, especially mainstream media. Over the past few weeks I have watched Popcorned Planet, who has the headline for the channel “Pop Culture Justice” which is what the channel aims to achieve. When I find a channel I tend to watched older videos on the channel. Andy Signore, does the job properly. He gets news and does research to make sure it’s fact.  If they get stuff live and they are not sure they tell you it's speculation and their opinion until they get the facts.  They have numerous exclusives which mainstream media are jealous of especially over the Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard, court case. Andy, with assistance from Stef and Kim who research in the background, have guest experts on a regular basis to explaining and

Episode 3: Star Wars Trilogy 4,5 and 6 Edited Trailers Edition

Image
This is when I realised I like editing trailers of film trilogys I tried to find the original trailers which I think I did, but there are so many.  I noticed the second and third trailers have less naturation. I got all three and edited them in a way the jumps in sound wouldn’t be that noticeable.  A New Hope,  there was a lot of footage to speech jump cuts. The intention is either to make an extended trailer or a mini movie.  The only other decision with trilogy’s is to either keep the original trailers audio or over dub the main theme and edit footage to that.  Let's see how future videos go :)

Quality Films: Episode 2: My Favourite Film Soundtracks

Image
Episode 2: Soundtracks I have Blade Runner, and Pulp Fiction on vinyl and the rest I have to get, this is the reason I did this video because these soundtracks are timeless. Blade Runner and Pulp Fiction are well known for the music as well as the film.  Trainspotting is also well known as a modern classic, but the only song that stands out is Lust for Life, by Iggy Pop because it helped to promote the film. There was also the Underworld, dance tune Born Slippy, but I feel Lust for Life was more mainstream in popularity. The Matrix has a good soundtrack but I don’t think people remember it for the soundtrack but more for the film's visuals except for Rage Against the Machine. The Crow I love but I think the soundtrack was overshadowed a little by the death of Brandon Lee during filming.  It's a fine soundtrack which was helped by the song by The Cure, in trailers. Oh, Brother Where Art Thou, is one of my favourite films due to the fact that it has a certain look, .pace and ju

The Factory Lights - Distant Childhood Memories ( My latest promo work)

Image
A returning client asked me to do a promo video. The lead singer  sent me family footage and wanted other footage from the 60s and 70s.  I got to work on searching for footage which took about a day for that.   As when you find footage and ideas come to mind.  Childhood memories were the general theme but I then I realized when I found more footage, I leaned towards the “Growing up through the years” idea.  The request was for ” Dreamy” visuals was asked.  I then realised “Clouds” which I added to the background. I did a couple of drafts as a few changes had to be done.  From start to finish with regards to sourcing and editing, this took me say three days maximum, give or take, which is average for this length. I find using film for added effect sometimes looks better or is an alternative to adding effects to footage.. Depends on the requests of course :) A video like this which is around 5 minutes will cost £100 or what your last video cost . Like any kind of work it takes time to do

Quality Films: Episode 1: My Top 6 Johnny Depp Films I Have Seen.

Image
My brand new film based video series. I love all sorts of films.  I’m a big fan of horror, scifi, action, animated and comedy’s depending on what draws me in. Recently, its been the streaming technology which has made me watch more TV and films. I still buy discs because streaming on a platform is based on licensing content and they can easily lose it. From the time this is written the volume of streaming content is very small. Episode 1: My (What I have seen)Top 6 Johnny Depp films  I’m using mainly  trailer for my videos. I edit them in a way and as smooth as possible to appear as if it's a mini movie. My first is celebrating the work of  Johnny Depp Top 6  with films I have seen. One of my favourites iwhich I saw on VHS a few years after it came out is the original  A Nightmare Elm Street.   It scared the hell out of me when I was younger.  I had no idea who he was at the time as I watched it as one of my first horror movie experiences.  It’s a classic in it’s own right. Nine Lights- The Joyful End - Album Review

Image
Colours, the first single and the first song from the album The Joyful End. Gary Smithson- Guitar and vocals Daniel Bonas- Bass and vocals Steve Parish- Drums and percussion Even though I had seen the bass player in cover band Under the Covers,  I didn't know what to expect.  The first thing that struck me was the husky style of the vocalist.  Literally, the first comparison that comes to me was Joe Cocker.  He definitely has a rock voice.  It's great to hear an album have an intro, which I am a fan of.  Sure, Colours has that "Single " sound about it but it goes with the album flow.  The Storm,  I can see being a romantic dancefloor request song same with "A New World", great guitar solos and vocals.  Progress, has that fast-paced 90s teen feel, Racing Lines and Make it on Your Own,  are both nice Acoustic ballads.  Things That Could Have Been, sounds like it could become  pub sing along and Above it all nearly rounds things off with a mostly instrumen

Among the Neon Awakening Echoes- The Flapper, Birmingham June 2018 -

Image
We love the Flapper in Birmingham, great venue and being threatened with a closer in June 2018. But that is not yet. More fun to be had Around this time every year Among the Echoes organise an electro gig with support. This time it was Welsh duo, Def Neon, and Johnny Normal. My wife and I got introduced to a nice couple by Among the Echoes manager, Carol who mentioned we are big fans. When they got on stage it turns out the couple were Def Neon, Emily (Vocals and bass) and Mickey (Guitar, Vox, and electronics ) with the 80s and 90s sample interweaved with the electro beats and a nicely controlled Kaos pad. Did about 30 minutes. Their sounds is kind of heavier version of Transvision Vamp.  They did a fine rendition of Killing in the Name of.. by Rage Against the Machine and I like the way they sampled Technotronic on the opening of one of their songs   This next act the man with the Razorblade smile Johnny Normal.  He performed Miss Razorblade, a few covers including I guess Soft

Little Brother Eli - Also Known As Performance 18th May 2018

Image
Little Brother Eli finally hit the ground in Banbury on Friday 18th May 2018.  I and Meow live in town not that far from the venue which is handy.  When bands are in its free entry as well. We thought that is worth a pint or two and a pizza.   Also Known As, is a different place to our favourite venue The Flapper in Birmingham, but about the same size where the bands perform. We got there about 8 pm thinking they would be on. Turns out there are on 10.30 - 11.30. As we have seen them before we would happily pay to get in. If your reading this and not heard of these guys before, they have a nice Pop, Rock, Funk sound with lead singer Alex, who has got a pretty unique vocal style and he moves with the music. The guy sweats buckets.   It reminds me of the Blues Brother performance, the entire band never stop moving, which is one of the reasons I like them. They are very energetic and they get the crowd going. This was very evident Friday night. They began with a soundcheck, which you

Little Brother Eli 2019 Christmas Party

Image
The Christmas Party was on. No elves but got support bands from Danny Mellin, The Brixton's and Betsie Gold. The wife and I got in early to get a place at the stage front.   I got the drinks and got treated to band and solo songs by Danny Mellin. All nice and solid Then came Brixton’s from Oxford.   I had to playback my phone as It turned into a wall of sound.  They were LOUD. My phone recording had managed to filter it out.   Fine band with a lot of energy.   I had not seen any of the support acts before nor on Youtube but Betsie Gold, I will see again. The sound was nicely balanced.  You  could hear everything clearly.   I loved the deep baseline and great singing by Betsie.   Very impressive and easily a headline act.    One of her famous show moves I found out is crowd surfing. First time i had seen anyone do that in person.   Outstanding performance. Now for the feature presentation.   Little Brother Eli The venue was packed and time to introduce new drummer Mitch, to
