Among the Achoes

The Chameleons of Gothic Darkwave Electro Synth Rock

have been on the scene since 2012, making themselves known to the masses with gigs all over the U.K. They have a strong sound and great frontman, Ian Wall. When we first saw the band it was clear Ian was good with a crowd both on and off stage and does not disappear afterwards unless time is tight. We have seen them a number of times since 2013, mainly at their Birmingham gigs, frequently at The Flapper. I believe Ian came up with the term 'Chameleon Band' and it's because they're always tweaking their sound and direction.

In General

What's also nice is they aren't a bunch of arrogant twats; Among The Echoes love their audience and love spending time talking to them. They always leave you wanting more at the end of a performance. They even change things up here and there - for example: at one gig at The Actress & Bishop (Birmingham) it was a duo with just Ian and Steve, with a handful of selected songs. Their short set was interesting and worked well. Dog's favourite song 'Hate' ('Fracture' album) is one of those songs that just stands out. We have witnessed the song with an electronic beat and with a live drummer.   The track breaks, what they call "A Drop" in dance music circles, are great and well placed.   The new song, Breath, Dog calls "Hate 2" It reminds him of the song with nicely placed "drops" The introduction of a live drummer was an interesting. Electronic to live drummer beat is very different and changes the sounds dynamic. On more than one occasion we have seen them with different drummers. The band sound is fantastic with a live drummer. Although they have performed in a near Rock style line up, they still keep their electro element. Their rise to musical fame began with the electronic beat based sound. Thats the mastermind of keyboard player, Steve. Their latest cover which sounds really good with a drummer is "Being Boiled" originally released by legends, The Human League. All the songs work either way,  which is testament to the bands writing skills Here is the Video Evidence We first saw them at the 02 Academy in Birmingham. Dogs wife Meow, won tickets to see them. This was to launch their debut ep, Freak. At this stage, You have Sam Wale (Guitar) and Phil Lockhart(Bass). This was recorded on a Note 2. The quality was just good enough A few months after this gig, Dog (Radio Variety Show at the time) conducted an interview with Ian in 2013 at their Flapper gig, Birmingham From What We Known At the band's core is writers, Ian Wall (Vocals), Steve Turrell  (keys) Together with various guitarists, bass players and drummers over a 5 year (Founded May 2012), have released Freak EP, Midnight ep, and 2017 releases, This is a Love Song and Breath.  They recorded their debut album in 2015 Fracture, featuring, Midnight, Hate, Freak and the live favourite, Pure. A Moment in Time This is from 2015, where Dog, Crow and Meow went to see the band who were supporting the Red Paintings from Australia at the HMV Institute. This is great venue and the only the second time so far we have seen the band in a rock band line up.  On this occasion,  Doug Flick ( guitarist ), Adge Bullimore (Bass) from the band, Elmo Sexwhistle. This is a great opening and you can hear the drummer tapping his sticks to start the song, Awesome The line up at this hour currently stands at in 2017: Ian Wall (Vocals), Steve Turrell (Synth's), Wayne Page (Guitar) Heartbeat/Hate This recorded late 2016 at the Flapper Birmingham. They open the way they open the album with Heartbeat. Instead of going into Fracture, they do a nicely done transition to Hate.  This is with Si Nig (Drums), Dave Hennessy (Bass) and Wayne Page ( Guitar) Lord of the Echoes now is it?  This is for their promo for Infest U.K This is the video to the track, Freak. One of the bands most well-known songs. This was also the band first ep release in 2013 with Feels Like Heaven' cover, originally by Fiction Factory This is one of the very few time the engineer recorded the audio. Ian managed to grab it. This is what a video is like when you combine the camera work with mixing desk audio.  On this occasion, there was Sam Wale (guitarist) and Riddell Thomas (Second Guitarists) This, Pure, the bands cover of the Gary Numan classic. I remember Ian saying someone recognised this song in America and remember Among the Echoes playing it.  Now thats a compliment The band always doing something and very friend bunch Dog and Crow
